How Pellevé Skin Tightening Works
The Pellevé System delivers constant, gradual radiofrequency energy deeply into the skin, causing heat to build up where the skin and fat layer meet. The increasing heat modifies the collagen bundles deep in the skin, causing contraction and stimulating the growth of new collagen over time. The result: firmer, tighter younger looking skin. A safer alternative to Botox, injectables and fillers wherein your own skin produces collagen and reduces wrinkles without the need for any surgery.

Safety of Pellevé
Is the Pellevé System FDA cleared?
Yes, in 2009, Ellman received FDA clearance for the Pellevé System for the treatment of mild to moderate facial wrinkles.
Is the Pellevé treatment safe?
Clinical studies have proven that the Pellevé facial treatment is a safe and effective way to reduce wrinkles without surgery. The side effects and discomfort are minimal, and no drugs or anesthetics are used during the procedure.
Who is qualified to perform Pellevé treatments?
A physician or qualified medical personnel under the direction of a physician may perform the Pellevé procedure. At Face Rx MD, all Pellevé treatments are performed by MD’s
Before Pellevé
How soon does one see the results?
There will be immediate improvement in the appearance. The initial results get better with time as the collagen remodeling will continue. In fact, your appearance will also continue to improve 6 month out after the treatment. The results can be present up to 12 and in some cases up to 18 months.
How Pelleve is different from Thermage and Ulthera?
Thermage is also using radiofrequency waves but heats the skin much more rapidly and can cause pain, redness and swelling. Pain medications and tranquilizers are prescribed to reduce discomfort. It is common to require more than one procedure.
Ulthera uses ultrasound energy to heat the skin and tends to be painful. Narcotics and tranquilizers are commonly prescribed before the procedure, numbness and bruising after the procedure can last several weeks. Ulthera is much more expensive procedure and might require additional treatments.
How many treatments are necessary?
To achieve the best results, a regimen of three procedures is recommended. The procedures should be separated by a minimum of 30 days.
Can Pelleve be used in conjunction with Botox, fillers, etc?
Yes, it can. However, Pelleve skin tightening facelift technology allows to address the root of the problem – deterioration of the collagen layer of the skin rather than applying a band aid to it with Botox and fillers.
Are there any contraindications to the procedure?
The procedure should be avoided in pregnancy. Persons with pacemakers, defibrillators or with history of connective tissue diseases should not have the procedure performed.
During Pellevé
How long does a Pellevé treatment take?
Each treatment will be from 30 – 60 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated at one time.
How is the treatment performed?
First, a conductive gel will be applied to the areas to be treated. Patients say they feel a deep warming sensation when the Pellevé handpiece is applied to your skin. You will act as a guide to describe the depth of the sensation as your clinician moves the handpiece gently across the treated areas.
Is the treatment painful?
No. Unlike other skin tightening systems, a Pellevé treatment does not require anesthesia. A Pellevé treatment is virtually painless and in fact, patients comment that it feels like a warm massage.
After Pellevé
What can I expect after a treatment?
There is no recovery time needed after a Pellevé treatment. You may be slightly pink with mild swelling for a few hours, you can wear makeup right away and resume normal activities, so it fits easily into busy schedules.
What will I need to do after a treatment?
Most doctors will instruct you to wear a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF 30 to prevent future photo damage and maintain the results of your Pellevé treatment.
How soon will I see improvement?
In most cases you will see a visible tightening and lifting effect immediately after one session. Your skin will feel firmer and smoother as the texture and tone improves.
How long do the results last?
The overall result of a Pellevé treatment is a noticeable improvement in skin quality and appearance with minimal side effects and no recovery time. Results continue to improve for six months.
How many treatments are needed?
Many people see results immediately after just one treatment. For many patients, a series of three treatments spaced about one month apart may be recommended for optimal improvement. Additional treatments may be undertaken at any time for long term maintenance.
Can a Pellevé treatment be combined with other cosmetic treatments?
Yes, We recommend Hydrafacial treatment two weeks before the Pellevé treatment . Only your doctor can recommend the best treatment plan for you, based on your skin type, age, and your cosmetic goals.
Instructions before and after the procedure.
Before the procedure
- Discuss with FaceRx team member in detail your wishes and goals. We encourage scheduling free pre-‐procedure visit to go over the details of the procedure and help you establish your own Personal Makeover Plan.
- Avoid use of Retin A products and other prescriptions topical medications for 3 days before the procedure.
- You will be asked to take off (or leave at home) earrings, necklaces or other facial jewelry for the duration of the procedure.
- The procedure will last 45-‐to 60 min. Eyes or jaw line only procedure will be shorter.
- No medications or other special preparations are necessary. Procedure feels like a warm massage. You might experience minor burning or tingling, but mostly you will experience that your skin feels tighter or as if you have more springs in it.
- Wait for 1 week after Botox, fillers injections to have Pelleve procedure done.
- Hydrafacial procedure could be performed 3 days before Pelleve procedure.
After the procedure
- There is no social downtime. We do advice to postpone rigorous exercise and exposure to direct sunlight until next day. We will apply light moisturizer and 40 SPF sunscreen right after the procedure.
- Light mineral make up (we recommend Jane Iredale professional skin care makeup) can be applied.
- Minor redness or tingling could be experienced – usually goes away within an hour or less.
- Botox or other injectables could be resumed in 7 days after the procedure.
- Hydrafacial will be beneficial in 2-‐3 days after Pelleve procedure.
